Ruskin Bond is renowned for his distinctively direct and humorous writing. He has written numerous best-selling short stories, novellas, collections, essays, and children's books in addition to numerous poems and articles that have been published in a variety of journals and anthologies. For his debut book, The Room on the Roof, he received the renowned John Llewellyn Rhys Prize at the age of twenty-three. He also received the Padma Shri honour in 1999, the Delhi government's Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012, and the Padma Bhushan in 2014.
